The Raw Story | U.S. government 'outsourcing its brain'

Due to its increasing practice of contracting out to private firms and agencies, the U.S. government is quickly losing its expertise and competence in vital national security and defense programs, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

"Since the 2001 terrorist attacks and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the federal government's demand for complex technology has soared," writes by Bernard Wysocki, Jr. for the Journal. "But Washington often doesn't have the expertise to take on new high-tech projects, or the staff to oversee them.

"As a result," he continues, "officials are increasingly turning to contractors, in particular the hundreds of companies in Tysons Corner and the surrounding Fairfax County that operate some of the government's most sensitive and important undertakings."

The number of private federal contractors has now risen to 7.5 million, which is four times greater than the federal workforce itself, the report indicates. Such a trend is leading the government to what Wysocki calls the "outsourcing [of] its brain."

The shift to private firms has not been without its

Wasn't that part of the problem with 9/11? Isn't this part of the problem with the present abuses and corruption going in industrial military complex? What the hell?

Rep. Waxman's staff, in a Feb. 8 memo, said that "at least one contractor hired to engage in contract oversight on the border project, Booz Allen Hamilton, may have a conflict of interest with Boeing Co.," the prime contractor. Booz Allen has done consulting work for Boeing and has been a member of the Boeing team on other contracts.

Ralph Shrader, chief executive at Booz Allen, flatly denies the charge. "I take the greatest exception to the idea of conflict of interest," Dr. Shrader says, adding that Booz Allen is doing "support" and "coordination" work on behalf of the government, and doesn't "oversee" Boeing. He adds that Booz Allen has for decades taken pains to avoid conflicts of interest, and has a rigorous process to avoid such conflicts. (Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, has hired Booz Allen to help the company with its news strategy.)

Having all these companies private sure makes it easy for "public servants" to have their hands on 'no-bid contracts', say I had "no idea" they were do such and such, "I know nothing, I know nothing". No wonder all these public servants seem to serve other countries, are filthy rich, or border on deviants. All hidden behind National Security?

Neo-Con: 'Execute Rosie For Questioning the Government'

Maniacal Neo-Con attack dogs cannot debate Rosie O'Donnell on a level playing field about the issues she raises on her show and therefore always have to resort to ad hominem name calling, demands that she be fired and as was broadcast last night, public calls for her to be hanged.

Actor and radio host Danny Bonaduce, appearing as a guest last night on MSNBC's Scarborough Country, hosted by former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough, advocated the death penalty in response to Rosie O'Donnell's statements about the Iran hostage crisis and her questioning the official story behind 9/11.

Whoa, Bonaduce is a piece of shit! Why doesn't he do something about his own loud mouth? While he is at it, he really should clear up his stinkin' thinkin', the booze and drugs and his hunger for attention has made him ugly inside and out. Quit feeding the hate, Danny. Rosie isn't saying anything that millions around the world aren't researching and asking questions about themselves. If the government didn't lie, cover-up, spin to the people or become filthy damn rich as "public servants", the People might believe them. How did this mess all begin? Who benefits? Who is pulling down the profits? Who could give squat about the future of our children and blowback on them, or harm to all humanity? Who fails to look at both sides of the issues in order to strive for peace? Why is peace a dirty word? What are "Rods from God"? Search for it. keywords with it... 9/11/01, space, Rumsfeld.

Afghan war may be lost: experts

Two Afghanistan experts painted a sobering picture of the conditions there yesterday, arguing support among Afghans for NATO forces is plummeting, the U.S.-driven policy of poppy eradication is wrongheaded, and the war might not be winnable in its present form.

U.S. scholar Barnett Rubin and Gordon Smith, Canada's former ambassador to NATO, delivered their withering comments to a Commons committee only days after Canada's top military commander, Gen. Rick Hillier, touted progress being made there.

Hillier, the chief of defence staff, this week predicted Canadian troops in southern Afghanistan will soon see a rise in attacks from the Taliban. But he insisted on using the term "surge" rather than "offensive."

Do you ever wonder how things would have been in forgotten Afghanistan if Bush/Cheney/ THE CABAL in the Pentagon wouldn't have pushed to invade Iraq? The whole point of these wars was because of 9/11, correct? Where is bin Laden? I thought a month or so ago, we were told we needed to have a surge type event in Afghanistan?

Have you read too that the Taliban met Cheney and various oil officials for the pipeline in Afghanistan way before 9/11? Is it the natural gas, oil, minerals, metals, opium trade, water....what is it? Surely it is not the people of Afghanistan benefiting, now who is? How come the opium crops went up in Afghanistan? Who packs these crops out of there, who sells this drug, launders the money? Now where is bin Laden? I'm all for March Madness and the Prosecutor that shouted "Madness, Madness!" but get your eyes off A.I. and get to researching. KR, still an asshat!

Thanks for your comment on my blog, teak. I didn't quite understand the reference to the tornadoes, but I'll be doing some research.

Once again, thanks for your latest comment on my blog, and, no, I won't delete.

Fantasic tho' it all sounds, Judy Wood's theory as to what caused the strange effetcs we saw in the photos of the cars ( and metal beams) on 9/11 is the only one that explains 9/11.

Clearly the boffs who invented the nuclear bomb back in the 1940s haven't been sitting on their hands for the last 50 years, so who knows what secret hardware the military have come up with in th meantime.

I coined the slogan, "Remember, remember, the eleventh of September, thermate, treason and plot", back in those heady days when the fauz PJF blogsite was still abuzz, but I now think that Stephen Jones with his thermate theory has gone down a blind alley.

So, I think you "lead" on the apparently unrelated topic of the hurricane is nworth some of my time investigating. Who knows what we might come up with.

Teak,

I've just been reading the news on Cheney on WMR. If true, it's quite staggering.

It brings up the subject of the death of Dr David Kelley, the British MOD defence on weapons of mass destruction who was found dead in woods near his home in Oxfordshire while I and various friends and friends of the family were celebrating my father's 70th birthday in July, 2003.

I do not believe that Dr David Kelley took his own life and there may well be parallels between his apparent suicide and the suicide/disappearance murder of John Arthur Paisley, the high-ranking CIA employee John Arthur Paisley who disappeared while sailing on Chesapeake Bay in the fall of 1978.

I have long been intrigued by Paisley's "bizarre disappearance" and even phoned Joe Trento, who wrote the breaking stories on the case back in '78, to discuss our views. Joe's view is nidentical to that presented in the Time magazine article. I suspect the Time magazine article to be misinformation, tho' I believe Joe wrote what he did in good faith. I think his problem is, as with all journalists dependent on inside sources, is that they can become manipulated by their inside source. (Tho' Joe would not discuss sources, I suspect that his inside source in the CIA was a disgruntled right-wing CIA employee, David S. Sullivan.)

This, I believe , is what may have happened with Woodward and Deep Throat, whoever he was, and I don't buy that crap that came out in the news a couple of years ago about Mark Felt being Deep Throat.

If you go to the JFK page on my website, Friends of the American Revolution, you will find there a Time Magazine article from the February of 1979 on the subject, plus several extracts from various books in which Paisley's "disappearance" is discussed.

I sense that his "disappearance" is far more significant than merely that of a low-level retired CIA operative as was reported at the time.
